Recent Happenings...

Richie Baneham (Animation supervisor - Avatar), Tom Moore (Director - Secret of Kells) and some 'Brown Baggers' (Granny O'Grim's Sleeping Beauty) spoke to an audience of animation students about their Oscar nominated work in Ballyfermot Senior College.

Really nice setup, unfortunately I had to leave early and missed most of it in order to make it into town in time for the World Premiere of Matthew Talbot-Kelly's 'Trembling veil of Bones'. A short co-production between the IFB and the NFB on which I did some character animation, tracking and compositing.
The film was shot with a RED one camera on a greenscreen stage in Ardmore, featuring actor/mime artist Brian Quinn in prosthetic makeup.everything other than Brian is CG. See more about it here

1050 is the new 1024

Some eagle eyes may have noticed that the preset sizes for pal compositions in After effects CS4 have changed from what we have been used to for a long time.

Our understading for a long time was that full widescreen 16:9 (square pixels) images/compositions should have 1024 pixels horizontally and regular 4:3 (square pixels) should be 768 pixels. the BBC have suggested that "digital pictures are effectively wider than analogue pictures" and have suggested these new figures are more correct; 768 becomes 788 and 1024 becomes 1050.
There is a comprehensive explanation and graphic guides on the BBCs website here..http://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/tvbranding/picturesize.shtml
